Abstract

The purpose of this study was to survey climacteric symptom of married women(the middle of aged women and elderly women)in the island. 162 The subjects were 162 women between 40-60 years old and 61-80 years old who live in island. The data, were collected from Oct. 1. 1999 to Dec. 3. 1999 and the study was based on structured question papers. The instruments about climacteric symptom were constructed 14 items climacteric symptom. The analysis of the data was processed by an SAS program and included frequencies and X2 test. The results of the study were followed.
1. The most frequently complained symptom of the middle of aged subjects was ¢¥back pain (81.48%)¢¥, followed by ¢¥memory loss(77.78%)¢¥, ¢¥multiple arthralgia(legs, arms, shoulder, etc.) (68.53%), ¢¥tingling sensation of extremities (62.%%), ¢¥palpitation(59.88%), ¢¥urinary frequency (59.88%)¢¥, nocturia(45.06%)¢¥, ¢¥anxiety and nervousness(45.06%), ¢¥urinary incontinence (43.83%)¢¥, ¢¥perspiration(43.21%), ¢¥hot flushing (42.59%)¢¥, ¢¥insomnia(42.59%)¢¥, ¢¥phalangeal joints pain(40.74%),¢¥ ¢¥sexual intercourse pain¢¥ (18.52%).
2. In the relationship between the vascular climacteric symptom and social demographic variables were significance in the ophorectomy (p=0.0440), and in the relationship between the psychological climacteric symptom and social demographic variables were significance in the pregnancy frequency(p~.0239). In the relationship between the vascular, muscular-skeletal, and urinary climacteric symptom and social demographic variables were significance in, the drug use(p=0.0112, p=0.0252, p=0.0441).
3. In the relationship between insomnia and social demographic variables were significance in the child number and own diseate history (p=0.029, p=0.0186) and in the relationship between back pain and social demographic variables were significance in the drug use(p=0.0088). In the relationship between multiple arthralgia and social demographic variables were significance in education, economics, and coffee use(p=0.0472, p=0.0168, p=0.0462), in the relationship between urinary frequency and social demographic variables were significance in fracture experience and drug use(p 3.0479, p=0.0447). In the relationship between urinary incontinence and social demographic variables were significance in the economic status and in the relationship between sexual intercourse pain and social demographic variables were significance in the menopause and contraceptives use(p=0.0302, p=0.0188).
This study shows the possible implication for nursing intervention of midlife women¢¥s and elderly women¢¥s health to prevent and relieve menopausal symptoms.
